About
I passed the B1 exam. Months of grinding through exam prep, and I walked out with the certificate to prove it. Then I actually tried to use my German — a real conversation, at real speed, with no multiple-choice options to fall back on — and froze. Vocabulary I'd supposedly "learned" for the test just wasn't there when I needed it. Listening at native speed lost me constantly. Pronouns and basic word order, things that should've been automatic, still needed conscious translation in my head, every single time.
The certificate said B1. My actual, usable German was closer to A1–A2. That gap — passing an exam versus being able to speak — is what this whole project is about.
I looked at what was out there and none of it fit. Apps like Duolingo optimize for streaks and quick, recognition-level wins — exactly the skill I already over-relied on, not the one I needed. AI chat tutors are flexible, but they have no memory of what you studied yesterday: nothing recycles, nothing builds on anything, so nothing really sticks. Exam-prep books just produce more exam scores, and I already had one of those.
So I built the thing I actually needed: a stable, deliberately sequenced curriculum from A1 review through genuine B1 and on to confident B2, aimed specifically at the soft spots exam prep leaves behind — listening at real speed, recalling vocabulary without a multiple-choice hint, building sentences spontaneously instead of translating word by word, and the pronouns and cases that quietly trip up almost everyone at this stage. Spaced repetition that only counts real recall as progress, not a lucky guess.
I built it for myself first. It worked well enough that I kept using it daily, and eventually it seemed obviously worth sharing rather than keeping to myself — if you recognize your own situation in mine (a certificate that didn't quite deliver usable German), this was built for you too.
It's free. No ads, no upsell, no premium tier waiting behind a paywall — I built this to solve my own problem, and giving other people the same tool costs me nothing extra.
